BAPTISM - What? Who? Why?

WHAT is baptism?
Baptism is an outward expression of our inner faith. It is a public testimony identifying us with the greatest act in human history—the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When we are  water baptized, being completely immersed in water, we are proclaiming the gospel message. Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and lives again. We are identifying ourselves with Him.

WHO should be baptized?
Baptism is for believers. Anyone who truly believes that God raised Jesus from the dead and that Jesus is Lord and Savior of their lives may and should be baptized. Because baptism is an expression of faith, it is therefore only for believers.

WHY should we be baptized?
Primarily because Jesus clearly commands us to do it. Baptism is an act of obedience to the word of God. Just before Jesus ascended to heaven, He gave these final instructions to His disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).

WHEN should we be baptized?
As soon as possible. There is no assigned waiting period between becoming a Christian and being baptized. In Acts 8:36 an Ethiopian eunuch asked the disciple Philip if anything should prevent him from being baptized immediately after having become a Christian. Philip responded by baptizing him just moments after his conversion.

For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. - Col 2:12 NLT

*We do baptize children, and believe their professions of faith can be as real and genuine as that of an adult, but we encourage parents to discuss the significance of this decision with their children and determine if they understand the decision they are making. Please Note: Anyone under the age of 18 must have parental consent.
