A Note from Pastor Brad:
As we enter into a New Year, I like to spend a little time reflecting on the good things that God has done. I encourage you to take a few minutes and think about God's faithfulness in 2025 and to thank Him for it! As we start 2026, we, as a church body, are planning for 21 days of prayer and fasting.
As you read through the Bible, both Old and New Testament, you will find that fasting was a regular part of the people of God, they fasted in times of crisis, in times of repentance, when they were in need of wisdom or strength from God etc. Jesus began His Earthly ministry with 40 days of fasting and came out of that time in the power of the Spirit.
Fasting is one of the ways to bring the flesh into submission. In 1 Corinthians 9:27, Paul says that he disciplines his body and brings it into subjection. As you fast, don't be surprised if your body starts to complain about it and lets you know!
I will say that for me personally, seasons of prayer and fasting have been some of the most spiritually refreshing times in my life, to really focus on drawing near to God. Often I notice a heightened sensitivity to the Spirit, I become more aware of His presence and God's heart of love towards people, the things of this world that seem valuable, begin to lose value as my heart and my mind become more set on things above.
I'm looking forward to all that God will do as we start this year seeking Him through prayer and fasting. Reminder, we have all church prayer and worship every Tuesday night from 6:30-8 and we would love to have you join us, especially in January!
Fast: To abstain from all or some kinds of food or drink
Here's a few tips to consider before starting your fast:
While fasting, even extended fasting, is generally not only safe, but can be very healthy physically, we do recommend that you speak to your doctor if you have a medical condition or an eating disorder that could be affected by a fast.
There are many ways that you can join in the fast, some choose to do a "Daniel Fast", which is mostly fruits and vegetables, others fast certain meals of the day, or choose to do a full day per week with only water or no calorie, or maybe extended days of fasting,
Prayerfully consider how God may want you to participate before the 7th and then commit to it. As a church we are setting a time frame of 21 full days. In this time frame you may fast one meal a day, one full day, three days, seven days, or even 21, etc. There is no set formula. This is a time for you to press in to the Presence of the Lord! Commit yourself to a length of time and decide what you're fasting before you begin. This way, when the hunger pangs, sugar cravings and your feelings kick in, you already have your decision made.
Allow the hunger to drive you to focus on the Lord. When you get a craving or have a grumbling stomach, use it as a reminder to pray and get your strength to press on from Him! Take it one moment and one prayer at a time.
